Writing is

For me, writing is more than putting words on a page. It is meditation, thought, testimony, and prayer — a way of seeing what is in my heart and listening for God’s voice.

Writing is my meditation.

My mind runs at full capacity,
trying to understand
everything happening around me —
facts,
feelings,
thoughts,
ideas,
questions.

Sometimes, I cannot understand them all at once.
So I write.
I give my thoughts time
to breathe,
to settle,
to become clear.

Writing is my thought process.

I take what is scattered in my mind
and shape it into words.

And when the words appear on the page,
I can finally see
what has been hiding in my own mind.

I search for the right words.
I weigh them carefully.

Because I am afraid
of hurting someone
with the things I say.

Maybe that is why
speaking is sometimes difficult for me.

But on the page,
I can slow down.
I can listen to my thoughts
before I let them go.

Writing is my testimony.

I want people to know
how tenderly God cares for us.

I want to leave a record
of the miracles
I might otherwise forget —
the quiet ones,
the unexpected ones,
the ones I recognize
only after looking back.

I want my words to say,

God was here.

Writing is my prayer.

Sometimes,
I am more comfortable
writing my prayers
than speaking them
in the morning
or at night.

Because I do not simply want
to tell God what I want.

I want to know
what He wants.

I want to listen.

I choose my words carefully,
not because God needs perfect words,
but because I want my heart
to be humble
before Him.
