Storytelling & Digital media

Video story

These video projects allowed me to explore how storytelling can communicate ideas, share personal experiences, and connect with audiences. I focused on developing a clear narrative, choosing visuals that support the story, and creating an emotional connection with viewers. Through these projects, I learned how visual storytelling can make a message more meaningful and memorable.

I featured Conan P. Grames, whose connection to Japan spans decades. He recently published a book exploring the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Japan.

Through historical storytelling, the book explores the early encounters between Japanese visitors and Brigham Young, the influence of those encounters on Lorenzo Snow, and the beginnings of missionary work in Japan. It also tells the story of the first four missionaries who arrived in Japan and met Nami Suzuki, the first Japanese woman to join the Church.

What captivated me most was that Grames spent decades researching and writing this book. Although he had served in Japan in various Church callings, writing this book was not an assigned responsibility. He undertook the work voluntarily, motivated by his love for the Japanese people and the members of the Church in Japan.

I created this short video to introduce myself to my classmates in an online course. I focused on using storytelling to share a little about who I am and connect with my audience.

This was the first video I created for a class assignment. The goal was to share 10 practical tips on a topic of my choice, and I decided to focus on cooking tips to help people prepare meals more quickly and easily.

I created this video to explore the purpose of missionary work through the experiences of my sons, Hibiki, serving in the New York, New York City Mission, and Masato, serving in the Utah Saratoga Springs Mission.

Rather than simply explaining what missionaries do, I focused on telling a story about their hopes, sacrifices, unseen challenges, and faith in Jesus Christ. Using a three-act structure, I aimed to help viewers understand the deeper meaning of missionary service and the personal growth that comes through serving others.

This project allowed me to explore how visual storytelling can communicate a meaningful message, evoke emotion, and help audiences connect with experiences beyond their own.
